This Harper's Introductory Geography was published in 1888. It was used in some of the earlies public schools in the San Fernando Valley.
The cover of the book, with North America at the center of the globe, reveals an ethnocentric theme which continues throughout the school book.
The races of human beings, depicted without females, features five color-based categories of people.
