CHERISHING OUR VALLEY 2012
Mitch Perliss gave The Museum's blog permission to share this photograph of the Wherehouse record store Number 6, taken in the Fall of 1973 in Panorama City.
Mitch notes on his Facebook page that " Mike's Pizza was behind the store, a valley fixture for a long time and they made the greatest garlic rolls. Manager's office shared the same wall as the oven and the smell was overwhelming, but they gave us a bag of rolls every day."

Holy MOZART... I worked at The Wherehouse from roughly 4/83 through 8/84... This was when the video rental craze had shaken the pillars of creation and we were PACKED Fridays through Mondays (that was the big "RETURN" day)... The popular mantra at the time was "HEY, they didn't rewind my tape!" "Golly gee I'm sorry Ms. 'Dungburger', I would hate for you to strain your pointer finger pressing rewind and waiting a whole 3 to 5 minutes... If I had some hemlock I'd drink it, as I feel so guilty and badly for you!!" I wish it had just been a record store, that would have been exponentially copasetic... I even filled in at one that WAS strictly records and it was a dream... Most customers were wonderful, yet now and then a piece of rat/maggot filth slipped through the door and ruined the week... LOVED the employee discount, and they even introduced a dental plan near the end of my run in order to boost morale and create an incentive for us to stay (?)... Wasn't the $2.50 an hour incentive enough? Nice stroll down "Amnesia Lane"... Last I heard FYE "absorbed" them... To the bosses and co-workers who were ultra cool, you were absolutely wonderful to work with and for... They say if you can't type something nice about "uncool" people then don't type anything at all... SO, to the "uncool"............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... (ad infinitum)...
