Neil Bucknam continues to share photographs from his childhood in Northridge for the Northridge100 celebration. The first three images were “taken at Northridge Elementary which was located at Nordhoff Street and Reseda Boulevard.”

“This was the May Day Parade in 1953. Steve Bucknam Jr. is at the head of the parade, he was in 3rd grade. He is now owns a successful engineering consulting firm in Orange County. In one picture you can see a wooden building on the back of the schoolyard. I recall PTA meetings that our mother attended there, some of the eucalyptus trees seen in this picture are still standing. They can be seen in the parking lot behind the bank building that was later built on the grounds of the old school.”

Steve Bucknam waters down foundation trenching. “Here is picture taken during the construction of the house that our father, Steve Bucknam, built on Lindley Avenue and Rayen Street. This picture is looking south down Lindley Avenue, around 1951. The trenching for the foundation is visible in the foreground with my brother Steve Jr. helping out with the watering. Eminent domain took 23 feet off the original property line to make way for the widening of Lindley in 1965. The house on the southwest corner of Lindley and Rayen is visible behind the palm tree and still looks much the same today. The original owners of that property were Alice and Roland Willis who were real estate team in early Northridge.”
