BUILDING A GREAT MUSEUM FOR THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY

Before its acquisition by the Pacific Electric Railway in 1954, the Ashbury Rapid Transit system served much of Los Angeles. Never very large, the system provided a small but useful part of the city of Los Angeles with part of its transportation network.

You can't use this September 15 - 21 Los Angeles Railway Pass from 1935 to get to USC on October 12th for the 8th Annual Los Angeles Archives Bazaar, but you can go right to the University by the subway system. Every serious historical archive in the city will have exhibits there. And, IT'S FREE.
Your Museum will have a table there.

MUSEUM SEEKS BIG BAND ERA VOLUNTEER

CHERISHING OUR VALLEY          2013

In early September, The Museum's Acquisitions Committee will have the very special opportunity to examine, document and add to The Museum's permanent collection, memorabilia related to the life and career of the great Swing Era jazz trumpeter Ralph Muzzillo Sr.

We are seeking a volunteer to assist The Museum during the visit of Mr. Muzzillo's son to the Valley in September.  The volunteer should have a knowledge of Ralph Muzzillo's musicial background (such as his work with Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman) and be prepared to advise The Museum on the potential exhibit of Mr. Muzzillo's work etc.

The eastern cities of the San Fernando Valley receive water from the great Colorado River Aqueduct begun in 1932. Water from the Metropolitan Water District, whose founding President was the San Fernando Valley's W.P. Whitsett, supplies Glendale, Burbank and Eagle Rock.
These images are from a splendid little booklet produced by the Metropolitan Water District for the California Pacific International Exposition in San Diego in 1935. At the time it was published the Colorado River Project was not yet complete. Entitled "Water for Thirteen Cities in the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California." In 1935 the Colorado River Aqueduct was the largest construction project in the United States.
