MOSKVA CLIFF RESTAURANT

2010 -- The Year of Valley History

Moskva Cliff Restaurant (signed menu)- Gift to The Museum of the San Fernando Valley from Gary Fredburg March 2010 - (click on image to enlarge)
Moskva Cliff Restaurant was located at 12616 Ventura Boulevard in Studio City. I know little about the place, save from a couple of visits there to impress one of my dates while in high school.

Best borscht I ever tasted. The chicken Kiev melted in your mouth. It's probably been 50 years since I ate there, but Moskva Cliff remains the standard by which I measure American Russian cuisine.

The borscht and eggplant appetizer were amazing. My favorite entree was the Bombay Curry en Casserole. We last ate there in the late 70's.

My family's favorite restaurant and Piroski was our favorite dish with Chicken Kiev a close second. We used to go often as our Dad was from Russian and loved the Russian food and my brother and I so enjoyed all the tastes and smells for all our growng up years. Would love to know when it closed
and what is in there now. I clearly remember the building and rooms and we dressed up to go there in those days. It was always wonderful for all four of us!!!! Kaaren Kurtzman

You can add my name to the list of people who enjoyed Moskva Cliffs Restaurant. It must have been in the 1960s when my parents first took me there (we lived in West L.A.) and it was like a secret restaurant tucked into the side of a hill in a bend along Ventura Boulevard. Years later in the early 1980s I started taking my wife there so we could both enjoy the food. I was just wondering what had happened to it and happened upon this website. I really miss all the old restaurants we used to visit.

I recently purchased a 1962 Oldsmobile Starfire, Had it shipped from Washington state to Chicago. Behind the glovebox I found the original protect o plate listing the moskva cliff restaurant as the original purchasers of the vehicle in 1962. It was purchased from Murphy Oldsmobile in California, very interesting, just thought I would share.

I went to this restaurant with my grandfather in the 50's and early 60's. he loved the place because they spoke Russian. this was before the influx of Russians to LA.
My favorite dish was something called chicken marachel, a stuffed chicken breast with wonderful things.
one of my fondest memories of the valley, along with Cupid's, bob's big boy and the Red Barn.
