As The Museum Community counts down to the 230th Birthday of Los Angeles in September, Liane Schirmer (Chair of MSFV's City Birthday Committee) reminds us to share photos from our Archives about Los Angeles history.
April 1898 - Soldiers prepare to leave for the Spanish American War. Here Los Angeles volunteers, including men from the San Fernando Valley prepare to leave for San Francisco on their way to Manila in the Philippines. Two blasts from a whistle atop the Los Angeles Times building indicated that a Spanish warship had been sunk.

The card was mailed to Mrs. Ruth M. Taylor of Monomet, Mass in Plymouth County. A note on the card reads, "The judge can tell you something of interest about this mission. How like the walls are made.
