This is an historic postcard showing the residence of the great Jane Withers. It is part of The Museum's archive of San Fernando Valley Entertainment Industry artifacts. The vintage postcard is a gift to The Museum from Gary Fredburg - 2010.

The great Anne Jeffreys, at the kickoff reception for the 75th Anniversary of Republic Pictures. One of Ms. Jeffreys most notable roles was as a ghost in the 1953-1955 television series Topper.
The 75th Anniversary of Republic Pictures is sponsored by The Museum of the San Fernando Valley in partnership with the Studio City Neighborhood Council’s Cultural Affairs Committee.

IMPORTANT UPDATE ON REPUBLIC PICTURES 75TH ANNIVERSARY EVENT

The Cultural Affairs Committee of the Studio City Neighborhood Council and the Museum of the San Fernando Valley (a 503 (c ) 3) are presenting to the public, free of charge, a 75th anniversary celebration of Republic Pictures from 11 A.M. – 5 P.M. at the former Republic Studios lot, CBS Studio Center, 4204 Radford Avenue, Studio City CA 91604.

Stars such as Adrian Booth, Anne Jeffreys, Peggy Stewart, and Hugh O'Brian are slated to attend. Leonard Maltin, the famed film critic, will moderate one of the star panels.

Festivities include screenings of Republic films, serials and trailers, live performances of swing and western music, entertainment by gun spinners, rope twirlers, trick horses, and cowboy poets, and a diverse collection of memorabilia. In addition, a speakers forum with prominent industry experts and Republic celebrities will discuss a range of topics from creating sci-fi special effects to tales of working at Republic Pictures. A special Republic Pictures stamp cancellation ceremony of the U.S. Postal Service’s Cowboys of the Silver Screen postage stamps will take place and be available for sale.


There are two other local events to help celebrate the Republic Pictures 75th Anniversary:
9/15/2010 - Egyptian Theatre presents a double-feature of Republic Pictures films (Movie start at 7:30 P.M., See http://www.americancinematheque.com/indexegyptian.html for ticket prices).
9/21/2010 - Studio City Library welcomes Marc Wanamaker as he speaks to guests on the history of Studio City and Republic Pictures (7 P.M., Free).

Republic Studios once was located in Studio City where the CBS Studio Center is now located. THE MUSEUM BEGINS PREPARATIONS FOR 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF REPUBLIC STUDIOS

Working with the Cultural Affairs Committee of the Studio City Neighborhood Council, The Museum of the San Fernando Valley is gearing up for an effort to locate and tell the histories of the talented craftsmen and women who made Republic Studios' stars look great. We need the help of the public to prepare these stories for the 75th Anniversary of Republic Studios.
The CBS Studio Center located at 4024 Radford Avenue in Studio City is seldom open to the public, but will host the 75th Anniversary of Republic Studios in September 2010. The historic place was once the home of Mack Sennett's Keystone Kops, Mary Tyler Moore and great movies like The Quiet Man with John Wayne.
The Museum will need help to make this the success it rightfully deserves.

Arranging for The Museum's new lecture programs is hard work, and preparing programs to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Republic Studios is a major priority. Fortunately, the Chairman of The Museum's lecture series, Willard Simms is already on the job.

75th ANNIVERSARY OF REPUBLIC STUDIOS COMMITTEE BEING FORMED

In preparation for the big 75th Anniversary of the founding of Republic Studios in Studio City, the Museum of the San Fernando Valley is forming a special REPUBLIC STUDIO EXPERIENCE Committee. The Museum’s Committee will be working closely with the Cultural Affairs Committee of the Studio City Neighborhood Council, to support community events surrounding the Anniversary.

The information and artifacts gathered by The Museum’s Republic Studios effort will form a basis for the organization’s ultimate objective of creating a site that celebrates the role played by the San Fernando Valley in the entertainment industry.

Among the things The Museum’s special Republic Studios 75th Anniversary Committee will be seeking will be:

• Profiles of Republic’s leadership – Administrative matters
• Maps and images of the physical layout of the Studios
