Shepherd of the Hills 100th Anniversary

Please join The Museum of the San Fernando Valley and the Valley community on Saturday December 1st and 2nd for Shepherd of the Hills' 100th Anniversary celebration. The Museum will be one of the exhibitors at the church on both days.

The Museum will have an exhibit of Tarzan, offer historical information on its programs such as historic walking tours, Public Art Initiative, Horses Across the Valley and Oral Histories of the San Fernando Valley. Also, a time capsule from the 1950s will be unveiled, cupcakes will be offered after each service and there will be other vendors/exhibitors on site.

The time of the events are Saturday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

With the North Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce, Los Angeles City Councilman Mitchell Englander, and the North Valley Community Connection newspaper, The Museum of the San Fernando Valley has provided a useful area-wide  2012 community resource guide. The Museum provided editorial and photo content for the work. Nancy Cartwright (perhaps better known as the voice of Bart Simpson) has an inspirational community message as the honorary mayor of Northridge.

Those who did not suffer losses in the 1994 Earthquake in the San Fernando Valley, will no doubt find it strange to see a photograph of a smiling family beside a giant pile of concrete rubble. But, for weeks and even months after the earthquake homes and commercial buildings not under repair did not have those heaps of debris. A pile of rubble announced that insurance had likely arrived and that rebuilding was underway. Here the family of Terry and Monika Poe in Porter Ranch pose with rubble marking the reconstruction of their swimming pool. For fun, the Poes shared this picture of the rebuilt pool complete with a new jacuzzi.

We in the Museum Community are very excited about the Northridge100 anniversary celebration. This year-long event will open the door to long lost and untold stories about the communities of Northridge, Porter Ranch and historic Zelzah Colony. As great as our Museum volunteers are, we need even more help to make the year a great success.
