MUSEUM RECOGNIZED FOR ITS ROLE IN THE VAN NUYS CENTENNIAL

DISCOVERING OUR VALLEY      2011                                      100th Anniversary of Van Nuys

On February 26th, The Museum of the San Fernando Valley was recognized by Assemblymember Bob Blumenfield for its dedication to the year-long support of the Centennial of Van Nuys. A certificate was presented to Michael Stevens, Director of Museum Development and Gerald Fecht, President of The Museum. The citation reads in part: "Celebrating 100 years of Van Nuys is an important Milestone to share with the San Fernando Valley and greater Los Angeles community. Mr. Blumenfield represents the 40th California State Assembly District.

When I was studying the handsome wooden friezes in the United States Post Office in San Fernando, the image that I thought was most symbolic of Michael Stevens was this panel of a ocean liner going "full steam ahead." Perfectly suited for his role as Vice President for Museum Development, Michael propels his Museum constantly forward. His high standards and demand for the Museum's progress are inspiring. Our December meeting of the Museum's Boards of Directors and Advisors, for example, will focus entirely on ways of raising money for our many projects while having fun in the process.
This is the perfect time of the year to offer our sincere thanks to Michael Stevens for his service to the Museum and to future generations living in the San Fernando Valley.

One of the most dependable and important contributors to the growth of our Museum Community is Michael Stevens. No one has worked harder to build the infrastructure of The Museum than Michael.
We all know that Michael's real reason for creating The Museum is for his adorable little girl Zoe! Thanks Michael for all your hard work, willingness to lead and encourage us all.

MUSEUM OF THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY PREPARES NoHo HISTORIC DISTRICT TOUR

Members of the Museum Community have begun work on the mapping and creation of tours of the NoHo Historic District. Shel Weisbach and Richard Hilton are our expects on the physical tour. Arturo Perez and Steve Sedlic will work on the kiosk, virtual and internet educational aspects. Michael Stevens will focus on bringing civic and corporate sponsorship of the project.

You can help us with the big undertaking by: supplying historic and present day photographs of present day North Hollywood, giving us tips about historic sites, sending us contact persons.

The San Fernando Valley deserves a great Museum of history and culture.
