AN ENCINO PUZZLE

CHERISHING OUR VALLEY                  2013

It took my son Damon and me a little while to figure out the location of this postcard image of the "Fabulous San Fernando Valley."  The is the building at the bottom center. Note the tower. The parking lot does not serve this building but the Galleria not seen. The white building is a Los Angeles Fire Department station facing Sepulveda Boulevard.

FIRE SERVICE HISTORIES NEXT ON THE MUSEUM'S ORAL HISTORIES AGENDA.

DISCOVERING OUR VALLEY    2011                         100 Anniversary of Van Nuys

Scott Sterling Leads Museum's Oral Histories Project.

Scott Sterling, Chairman of The Museum's Narrating Lives - Oral Histories of the San Fernando Valley, encourages The Museum Community to include the histories of the men and women who serve and have served in public safety in the Valley.  Thus far, Scott leadership has resulted in video interviews of five people with historical ties to the Los Angeles Police Department. Fire Safety officers are the next group whose oral histories will become permanent parts of The Museum's archives.
Scott is shown here with a classic Fire Department vehicle once assigned to San Fernando Valley fire safety stations.

Among the many notable actors who live and work in the San Fernando Valley is famous Erik Estrada. Here he arrives to support Fire Services Day in Toluca Lake. Throughout the 1990s, Erik starred in the most successful Spanish language novella in history, and became world famous for his starring role in the television series Chips (1977 to 1983)

The Museum of the San Fernando Valley adds its thanks to Los Angeles Fire Department Station 86. And, thanks to Erik Estrada for enriching our lives.

The San Fernando Valley, in the heart of the Creative Capital of the World, deserves a great Museum of history and culture.
