CHERISHING OUR VALLEY 2013
Before the development of the canyon communities and the desert communities were quite little villages, coming into the Valley was a rather quiet experience. This postcard, a gift to The Museum of the San Fernando Valley from Gary Fredburg in 2013, reads: "Fabulous San Fernando Valley. Entering the valley through the Northern Gateway, near the town of San Fernando."

This was photographed in about the same spot where now Highway 14-The Freeway passes over the old Sierra Hwy. It was four-laned until it reached Newhall Blvd and then became two-lane over a high and scary pass before coming down into into the Saugus area and crossing a much smaller bridge over the wash. My mother was always scared when we drove over this short pass in the 50's and early 60's.
At the bottom of the road on the left, i believe was an old gas station and restaurant. A sign said, eat here and get gas.
It was an old Richfield Station, as you say. The building is still there, after all of these years, but is used for some type of storage collection now.
