ORPHA KLINKER DRAWING ADDED TO ARCHIVES OF THE MUSEUM OF THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY

Phyllis Hansen shares with the Museum Community yet another little Orpha Klinker gem, a Christmas card that is composed of all of the great California artist's good wishes. Phyllis notes that she "… used this as my Christmas card several years ago. I have the actual wood block used to print it, though didn't have a hard copy. In order to pull a print from it to reproduce, I took it to Hollywood Rubber Stamp company where we worked on their special machinery for some time in order to get something relatively clean."
Later Phyllis acquired the actual artwork from which the print block was made. She scanned the card, along with Orpha's directions to the printer. The work is undated, but has clues to the time in which it was used. Phyllis notes, "clues are the earring style, the lettering style, and the use of XMAS."
Of special interest is Orpha Klinker's address at the bottom. 830 Capitola Place.

One must read the words comprising her self-portrait silhouette to fully appreciate the hand lettering and good wishes in this card--and all the puns she incorporated--probably contributed by her screen-writer brother Zeno Klinker. They usually collaborated on these annual projects.
