JOHN WAYNE LIVED IN ENCINO IN THE 1960s.

DISCOVERING OUR VALLEY    2011

John Wayne - vintage postcard - Gift to The Museum of the San Fernando Valley from Gary Fredburg 2011.  (click on image to enlarge)

On the way home from having lunch at Jerry's Deli in Encino, Tom Mentlick, Brendan's friend, drove through the hills and turned south on Louise Avenue.  We turned west above the location where the actor John Wayne once lived.
When I was a Notre Dame High School boy, the Wayne's white colonial house was still there.  He and his wife Pilar sold the property and moved (I think) to Newport Beach.

After the fire, John Wayne and his family moved to a house directly across the street from our home at 3940 Valley Meadow Rd in Encino. They lived there the entire time of the home reconstruction and it was after that they moved to Newport. He was a great and gracious neighbor. He sponsored my little league team, the John Wayne Giants. In 1958 my parents held the annual team party in our backyard and he met the parents and the team at our BBQ. The John Waye Giants were the league champions in 1957 and he presented each of us with a personlized coffee mug with a gold handle. I have mine to this day.

I also attended Notre Dame class of 1963
