A MYSTERY SHRUB IN SAN FERNANDO

DISCOVERING OUR VALLEY   2011

Here's a horticultural mystery to test you.  Guess what kind of shrub this is growing in the garden of Carmela DeRose in San Fernando. The plant is about six feet high, stays green all year long and can brag that it may have descended from one of the most important agricultural products in San Fernando Valley history.  Scroll down for the answer:

































The plant is actually an olive tree. Sylmar and San Fernando were once among the most important olive production centers in the world.
