Sports and body conditioning took on a different meaning to students and coaches who knew that they (including the young coach) could well be serving in the Armed Forces at the end of the school year.

Despite these smiling faces, what must the feelings of these girls and boy have been reading the message "The Enemy is Listening" "Defense Window - Buy Savings Stamps" "Protect Your Future - Learn a Trade" These girls may not have known it, but they would be the first generation to follow their mothers into defense factories and begin their journey to financial independence.
