CHERISHING OUR VALLEY 2013
The 4th of July brought an unexpected visitor to a friend's family in Woodland Hills - a 3 foot long rattle snake. Often residents of the San Fernando Valley forget that we have moved into the territories long claimed by wild animals. Fruit rats, lizards and murders of crows were all here before even our Native Tongva people were.
When I was a boy, there were horned toads in the Valley, but I haven't seen one for years. In a very hot September of 2001, Nancy Pattig encountered this California bob-cat in her Studio City garden.(click on the photos to enlarge them.)
