On Sunday, February 19th, the Pacoima Historical Society is collaborating with The
Museum of the San Fernando Valley to present a Black History Month celebration.
Both organizations are inviting valley residents to come experience the visual and oral
history of African Americans in the San Fernando Valley.
The event will feature entertainment, with The Museum Board Member SFV, event committee member, DJ/MC Eric Stuart hosting the festivities. There will be large photo exhibits, vendors, and food. It promises to be an educational and enlightening time for all.
Invited guests to include:
U.S. Congressman Tony Cardenas, 29th District*
Newly elected Los Angeles Mayor, Karen Bass*
CA State Senator, District 20, Caroline Menjivar*
City of Los Angeles Councilman, District 12, John Lee*
Guest speakers also include USC Football legend Anthony Davis*, who, at San Fernando High School, was the co-Los Angeles Player of the Year in football, won the city title in wrestling, and was named the City Player of the Year in baseball. He was a member of the 1965 North Valley Broncos, the first all-Black baseball team to advance to the Little League World Series.
In addition, author and historian Crystal Jackson will deliver an in-depth presentation on the untold African American history of the San Fernando Valley. She will also be signing copies of her new book “The Marilyn Monroe Connection,” based on a true story about the coroner's deputy who investigated Marilyn Monroe's case in 1962. Her father's transcendent story and tragic experience with Marilyn's controversial case. His incredible real-life involvement, including signing her death certificate, has been well-publicized over the years and led to the Los Angeles District Attorney's office reopening an investigation in 1982.
